  1. There was always enmity between the Callan and Mallinahone people, that was one of the reasons Callan wa called "Calainn an Clampair" for there were many Faction fights in the town as it was on the border between Kilkenny and Tipperary.
    The Carrick on Suir people, the Ballingarry and Mullinahone people made Callan their fighting centre in the olden times, hence the old saying:-
    Run through the world but walk aisy through Callan."
