  1. My father told me there was a castle in Mount Delvin. It was four storey high. The last one that occupied it was a family named Gaffneys. Before then in my grandmother's time a family named Lynchs lived in it. He kept dogs and two otters. He would let the otters out to the river.
A man named Lord Delvin lived in it and that is how Mount Delvin got its name. A man named Nester is living in the land now.
In my father's time the boys used to play handball at the castle. There used to be a great gathering of the youngsters on Sunday evenings. They used to enjoy themself with dancing, music, games, and other forms of sport.
About thirty years ago the Congested District Board took over the land, and divided it amongst the people. They knocked all the buildings, and took away the stones to build houses with and that was the last of Mount Delvin castle.
