    The bloodhounds found their way,
    He heard their steps approaching,
    From the bed on which he lay,
    Up jumped he like a tiger,
    For their business well he knew,
    And from underneath his pillow forth,
    A two edged blade he drew.

    First enter Major Swan, and soon
    The two edged was dyed,
    'Twas caught between his fingers,
    And buried in his side,
    Then came Ryan with a cane sword,
    And struck Lord Edward, bled,
    Then closed in deadly grapple,
    And fell into the bed.

    Ere long the two edge blade again,
    A bloody sheath had found,
    And by a struggle tumbled,
    From the bed unto the ground,
    Up stood the brave Fitzgerald,
