    a Saint Brigids ribbon.
    On twelfth night the old people used to get a plate of oatmeal and they would put a candle standing on the plate for everyone in the house. The candles were made from rushes, dipped in mutton grease.
    They used to light the candles and whoever owned the candle that burned down first would be the first to die in the family.
    When the candles were all burned down the people used to go to bed and leave the plate there until next morning. When they got up the next morning they would pick the bits of (oats) candles out of the oatmeal. They used to fill some of the oatmeal in to a bag and give it to the first poor person who came the way. They would put some more of the oatmeal into a piece of paper and put it up inside the door of the cowhouse to bring luck. On Palm Sunday people put up blessed palm in their own houses
