- In olden times people had only three meals, one course at each meal. The breakfast consisted of porridge, some times oat - meal bread made on a griddle and a bowl of butter milk. The dinner consisted of potatoes and salt or home grown vegetables and butter -milk. The supper was potatoes and salt & milk. These meals were eaten at six o'clock in the morning, twelve in the noon day and six in the evening after they came in from their day's work. The did all their work in the morning before breakfast. The people drank butter - milk. They did not use a table, the basket of potatoes were set in the centre of a clay floor - rich people had a little stand made. The bread was made of oat - meal & warm water, it was then put on a griddle, meat was used often for the people killed their own calves this was called veal, one neighbour then bought a piece from another, the vegetables were home grown(continues on next page)
