- (continued from previous page)Cloth is not spun and woven locally now but in former times it was spun by Mr. Humphries, in High St. Shirts are not made locally but there are accounts of shirts made out of flax which was grown locally. There are no spinning wheels in the district now but in years gone by nearly every house had one.
- People did not wear boots until they were about eighteen years of age in former times. There was a man living here who never wore boots and an old woman lived on the Green who always went barefooted. She used to say if she wore boots that the fairies would take her. Children still go bare-footed in Summer.
Boots are not made in our district at present but they are repaired. There are four shoemakers in the area and shoe-(continues on next page)- Collector
