  1. About a mile and a half from Castleblayney on the road leading to Carrickaslane school is the large and picturesque farm and residence of James MacBenett of the same townland. It was formerly owned by the late Dr. Hunter, who died some years ago. Adjoining this farm is a wood of large dimensions. Once it was said by an old man who has since died that many lights and ghosts were seen about it after the death of Dr. Hunter, and I was told by Hugh Hunter, Hillycracken, Castleblaytney, Co. Monaghan that one of the rooms is still haunted.
