  1. Potatoes are grown on my farm.
There is about a rood of ground sown under potatoes every year.
The farmers prepare the ground for it. The farmers put out the manure and scatter it on the ground, or plough the ground and scatter it in the heart of the ridges.
The potatoes are sown in ridges.
Ploughs are mostly used in our district. Wooden ploughs were used long ago.
There are none of them left now.
Spades are not locally made but are bought in shops.
The women cut the potatoes into pieces called splits.
There are a couple of eyes in each piece.
The local people in our district help one another in planting potatoes. When the stalks begin to come up the farmers cover the stalks with loose clay they get in the furrow.
When the stalks come up the farmers get blue stone and washing soda and water and steep the blue stone and washing soda in the water for a night
