a clapper under the bellows which sucks in the air and then the air blazes the fire when you pull on the long handle over head. There is also a long metal pipe going into the fire and when you pull on the long the forge coal will make a good fire which heats the iron quickly for the horses shoes. The bellows are not made locally. Long ago the smiths had privileges that the people would plough, harrow, and dig potatoes, and also to bring home his turf free of charge, and the people used to do a lot of other things like that for the smith.
