  1. During Shrove a great number of people get married.
    It is said that the harvest time is a very unlucky time to get married.
    It is said that Monday and Friday are unlucky days to get married.
    Match-making is generally carried on in Ireland but not in other countries.
    When the match is being made one of the parties sends an account to the other by a friend.
    If both parties are willing to make the match the girl's father and some friends come to the boy's place to see the land, and all the means that are there.
    After much huggling they agree to the fortune to be paid.
    They appoint a day to meet in Listowel.
