  1. 1. There was a big wind in this locality on the sixth of January 1839. It was the hardest ever recorded in this country. It carried salt with it from the sea felled trees and did great damage to [?] houses. There is a story told of an old woman who lived then. Her walls were shaking with the wind so she went and sat under a massive tree for shelter. The tree fell on her and killed her. There was a big fall of snow about 23 years ago. There were snowdrifts as high as house and the people were making trap holes for each other. The snow froze and carts could be pulled over it.
    2. My grandfather was gambling one night in the year 1839. When he was coming home, the hat was blown off his head and he got it the following morning at the sluice of the mill in Ballinderry and a hare in it. There was a cloudburst in New [?] in September 1883 and it brought the turf out of the bog and out on the road.
