- Every year people sow potatoes. The men and big boys prepare the land for them. They make drills in the field where crops were sown before. On fresh land where no crops were sown ridges are made.
To one acre of potatoes eighteen horse carts of stable manure are required.
At first the farmer ploughs the land then he cultivates it, then he rolls it, and last of all he makes drills with a double plough. On the drills he spreads the manure and on the manure the slits are left.
The potatoes are cut into two or three parts the parts that the eyes are in are kept for seed, they are called sgialáns and the part without eyes are kept for pigs they are called Liodháns.- Bailitheoir
