- It was a general run for the Black and Tans to go from Dunmore to Williamstown in lorries and armoured cars. At this place beside our land the road is lower than the hill and it is called Poll Aodha. The Republicans put barbed wire across the road. They hid in the sandpit expecting that the lorries would come. The lorries did not come and it was a good job for the Republicans as the ammunition would not work and if the Black and Tans came all the Republicans would be killed.
