angel appeared to him in his dream and told him to take flight to Egypt with the Divine Infant and "Our Blessed Lady" as the soldiers were on their way to kill the child. So Saint Joseph got up and the holy family went on their journey. They rode an ass to Egypt and got there safe. On every ass there is a mark of a cross in honour of the holy family's flight.
