    During the local talk of the people you can hear them say old sayings and proverbs such as:
    Do no pick a book by the cover.
    Rise with the lark, with him to bed.
    Mending saves spending.
    It is dear bought butter you would lick off a bryre (briar).
    Don't buy what you don't want or you will have to sell what you do want.
    Time and patience will bring a snail to Jerusalem.
    A short horse is easy curried.
    Beauty only goes skin deep.
    A snail can get its meat as well as a swallow.
    A waited on pot is long of boiling.
    Nearer the church the further from God.
    Short prayers are good for the soul
    An old dog for the hard road.
    It is better to aim high and miss than to never pull the trigger.
    The harder the frost the nearer the thaw.
    There is always a quietness after a storm.
    It is all better than a bad marriage.
