   Cabbage is pulled and thrown at the doors of the houses.
   People take the inside out of a turnip, make eyes a nose and a mouth in it and place a lighted candle inside the turnip then. This is put up on the top of a Hilly tree. It has often frightened people who do not know what it is and who have not heard of the trick before.
   People often close their gates on Hallow E'en night. It is a great trick to lift a gate and carry it about two miles, and leave it there. Next day the owner has to search for his gate. I have known the wheels to be taken off a donkey's cart and carried off and left in another man's yard.
   Then there are the usual Hallow E'en tricks for indoor amusements.
