    use your utmost efforts now!
    Save the people from destruction, ward from them this deadly blow;
    Warn their rulers of the danger, warn them selves where duty lies,
    Till the famine - cloud is lifted, and they've seen more sunny skies.
    Stricken people, tired and tortured, raise your voices high in air,
    To the God of mercy raise them; he will surely hear your prayer;
    Bid him stay the deadly death-plague - the potato's withering foe,
    Or some sounder food-stuff bring you if the potato's doomed to go.
    P.T. Mc Ginley.
