- About six miles from here is an old ruin, referred to locally as "The Steeple".
It looks like the remains of a castle or more likely a tower. At present the ruins is less than 20 feet high.
On a stone at the base is the imprint of two large feet.
Tradition says that the footprints were left by the feet of a giant.
He had jumped from the top of the Steeple. The jump was performed when the giant of the Steeple was attacked by a rival giant. The Rival was forced to fly, and our Steeple friend would have preferred to hold and hang him. So to spare time in descending from his perch, in the usual manner he had recourse to the famous jump. But the fugitive had a three-mile start of him. Stooping down, the Steeple-giant lifted a huge three-ton stone and hurled it at the retreating enemy. The throw took effect and stunned the runaway.
