the money is paid out the farmer has to give back a “luck penny.” This is usually about one shilling in the pound.
The greatest fair of the year in Ballyshannon is held on the 16ths of September,-- “The Harvest Fair” People from all parts for the surrounding districts attend this fair. Cattle, horses etc. are bought and sold by the farmers, who bring in their stock at an early hour in the morning and about twelve o’clock the fair of cattle etc. is over. Immediately the buyers of such cattle have these animals dispatched on the earliest trains to England and Scotland.
Many amusements are in Ballyshannon for the "Harvest Fair” and the people-young and old enjoy themselves.
