- Long ago bread was very scarce in this country. Now-a-days nearly everyone makes two or three cakes. It is generally in bastables that everyone bakes the bread. The farmers have to have a lot of bread. Bread is very dear at present. Some people make different kinds of cakes, such as pancakes and sweetcakes. The cake is much better than the white bread. It is out of wheat that bread is made.
