  1. Every farmer grows a supply of potatoes each year on his farm. First the land is ploughed, next it is harrowed and then made into drills. Next the manure is put out with a cart and spread in the plough and artificial manure is shook over it. The splits are then cut and the ones that are not used are called leyans. Next the splits are left on the manure and the farmer closes them in with a horse and drill plough. In most places the neighbours help each other with the cutting and leaving of
