    he turns the last sod. The furrow between the ridges is called a shough. While the farmer is ploughing the land for the potatoes his wife is busy slitting the seed potatoes. She has to leave one eye in each slip or no new potatoes would grow. The slips without eyes are called leeawns. When the farmer thinks there are enough of potatoes cut he goes out and he makes holes in the ridges a foot apart with a steeveen then the slips are placed in the holes. A few days afterwards manure is spread
