    a pain in the side from walking or running, to lift up a stone and spit under it unknown to others. If they had warts on their hands, they used to rub a piece of bacon to them and then bury it unknown to anyone and according as the bacon would rot the warts would be getting smaller. They used to rub a leaf of ivy to them also, making the sign of the cross over the warts and then hang it up on the chimney so that the smoke would wither it.
