  1. The Irish people lived mostly on potatoes in former times, and even yet they form the principal part of the mid-day meal.
    The farm nearest to us is nearly all occupied by potatoes this year.
    The potatoe seed is got from sprouted potatoes of the year before.
    Each potato is cut into portions as seed.
    The land is ploughed with an iron plough and two horses, and made into drill.
    The manure is next spread along each drill, and lime is shaken on it. The seed is put down then
