  1. At one time a man named Shields lived at this cross and then it was called Sheilds Cross. This man was very rich so he spent it freely. Then he died a very poor man. There was a song about this man. I do not know it all but one part went like this:
    "The ducks and the quail and all kinds of game.
    Inquiring for Shields of Darver".
