  1. I was one night in October inside at home reading a book, when the latch was raised and in walked an old friend of mine, who lived about two miles away. We stayed talking beside the fire till about ten o clock and then I said I'd go part of the way home with him The night was fine and the moon was up, but the sky was a bit heavy I walked with my friend a good part of the way. We were conversing and taking it easy and we never felt the time passing. The road was a lonesome one, and there was a wood at the south side of it.
    I parted from Dick at the head of his own boreen
