- (continued from previous page)Though to her I was a stranger + she being out of danger.
She gratefully invited me the pleasure board to share.
And with Cupid for our guider, up I gladly sat beside her.
And drove along right merrily to the Miltownmalbay fair. The said she I'm Nora Daly, from the parish of Kilmaley,
My father is a farmer + the crossest man in Clare.
If he chanced to see you here beside me I'm sure that he would chide me.
So you'll please get down + walk a bit before we reach the fair.I reluctantly obeyed her as I could not have gainsaid her,
As visions of her father with a fierce + angry glare,
Up before us quickly started, though from her I sadly parted,
And she took my heart along with her a-going to the fair.At the Four-mile stone I met her + within my heart I set her.
And treasured her sweet memories In my wanderings everywhere
And when oft in exile dreaming, I can see her blue eyes beaming
As they beamed upon me long ago a going to the fair. Now I have told my simple story + though aged now + hoary.
It makes me feel quite young again + puts to flight dull care,
And along with what I'v told you one more secret I'll unfold you
You'll never meet more loving hearts than those in Co. Clare.- Collector
