The very field on which the school is built is called the "Church-field" because the foundations of an old church are still to be seen in a western corner of the field. It is from church that the townsland got its name - Kilemakill (Cill mo Cill)[?] the church of many cloisters or (Cill ma Coille)[?] the Church of the Wood
