    As it not infrequently happened in this parish that Leprechauns were found mending shoes under dock leaves or mushrooms many tales connected with them are related.

    The Leprechaun can only be bound by a plough chain or woollen thread. He is the symbol of industry which if steadily faced leads to fortune as can be seen from the following story.

    At the western side of this parish could be seen up to recently the ruins of two houses one on either side of the road. Many years ago one of these houses was extremely ugly and untidy while the other was well kept and clean. One day the woman who owned the untidy home was out enjoying the sun when she heard the ticking of a hammer, she looked about and saw a little man six inches high cobbling a small bróg,

    The woman at once began to [?] saying how hard it was for her to work and how easy it seemed to her neighbour. Hearing this the Leprechaun looked up and said your neighbour has a one eyed servant and if you prepare a bowl of curds and whey I will return at the next sunset with a one eyed servant to you. The woman was immensely excited but what to her surprise when the firin beag cam in and handed her a slip of paper through which a needle protruded and written on it were the words "use your needle" this the woman obeyed and in the course
