    not eaten at every meal. Milk was drunk at each meal. Sometimes butter milk was used and sometimes skim milk was used. The table when not been used was left up against the wall.
    Oaten bread was eaten in those days. The oat-meal was mixed with water and baked on a griddle resting on a tri-pod over a turf-fire. Meat was seldom eaten. Fish was the commonest thing in those days. Herring and ling-fish was what they ate. Nettles were boiled and eaten. About seventy years ago tea came to be known in this Parish. To show their ignorance of the making of tea. They used to throw out the tea and eat the tea-leaves. On Christmas morning all the people in the house used to get a cup of tea
