- The Lore of Certain Days
Some days are looked on as lucky and some as unlucky in this district.
Friday is generally looked on as a very unlucky day on account of the Crufixion which took place on this day.
On this day people do not like to begin to build a house or to change from one house to another.
They will however plough on Friday.
The Cross Day of the year is Ash Wednesday. On this day people go to chapel and put a cross of ashes on their forehead.
Good Friday is supposed to be a very fortunate day for the planting of potatoes.
The people think that the potatoes will thrive if planted on Good Friday.
They also think that it is very cucky to dig the first potatoes on St Johns Day.
This day falls on the twenty forth of June.
The first nine days of April are very cold. These days are supposed to be borrowed from March which is a very cold month.
They are sometimes called the days of the old cow.- Collector
