- Dear friend, I've heard you complain
That answ'ring your letters I defer,
Which, sent by you across the main,
I should my thanks at least proffer.
A stinging cut I'll call it that
Some sprite he whispers in mine ears:
"Perhaps it may be tit for tat;
There is no haste allay your fears;
To-morrow will be time enough,

Why bother him with idle stuff

Thus I am led fro day to day
To keep from writing when I'd wish.
To have it o'er without delay,
But for the whisper of that "pish",
This little sprite with hint's quite subtle.
Persuades us to postpone, delay,
And then he gives a secret chuckle,
When he had fooled is right away.

A sudden smash for neat fill in
But you must first your sounds subdue.
