- I heard a yarn wan time about a great big monster that used to come out of the river somewhere about Wexford town; and every time he would appear seven men, or else seven women used have to be thrown out to him. If not he would come in and kill everywan in town. The way they used to manage was, they used to cast lots to see who should be thrown out to him; and whoever the lots fell on, they had to go. I had a lot of warns about that but I'm after forgetting. I know several went to fight him but they were always killed. In the wind up a fellow came along and killed him.
- There was two fellows wan time, and whatever they did out of the way, they were taken and tried; and the two were sentenced to be hung. The sentence as all was read out to them. They were to be hanged on such a day. “Well, now,” says the judge, “I’ll give wan of yez a chance. Whichever wan of yez are able to tell me the best lie will be let off.
