- (continued from previous page)The potatoes are cut into slits - an eye being left in each slit. Holes are made in the ridges a foot apart. A slit is placed in each hole and the holes are covered.
The ridges are left for a fort-night. Then manure is spread on each ridge and mould is placed on it. This is called "labouring".
In June the stalks are sprayed so as to prevent blight.
