    When sitting around the fire on a winter's night we(the) amuse ourselves in certain ways. We play games of cards as "mugs" "spots", "donkey", "old maid" twenty five", We also play a game locally called "fox and goose"
    Two usually take part in this game. A sheet of paper is ruled into squares. One person makes a cross which is called a fox. Another makes a nought which is called a goose. When a cross is each side of a nought the two crosses beat out the nought. Another game we play is "Giving round the ring." Any number of people
