  1. Long ago the people made baskets which were known as "cliabs" and "sciacs" They used to sow trees known as osiers. When the young rods would shoot out in the Spring, they would grow big during the Summer. In the harvest they used to cut the rods and put them up in a house for a few weeks to season. Then they used to make the baskets. The "cliabs" is about one and a half ft high and the same in length. It was used for drawing potatoes or bringing out turf from wet banks to the road. The "sciac"was used for straining potatoes or turnips and they would pick the potatoes into it and draw them to the pit.
