A mould was used for making candles.
[Diagram of candle showing where wick and nail are located.]
A nail with wick attached was put across the wide end. The other end of the wick was passed through the narrow opening of the mould. Melted tallow was poured in at the wide end and allowed to harden. The mould was then put into warm water for a few minutes to soften the tallow around the sides. The candle was then drawn out by means of the nail.- Collector
