  1. Down from the mountains and distant surroundings,
    Up from the moor lands, the valley of the mire;
    Some for the sporting, more for the courting,
    All to the sports in the vale of Belvoir.
    Oh! the sweet recreations, the grand decorations,
    Combined with the ladies in gorgeous attire;
    We've not over rating in candidly stating
    You can't beat the colleens or the sports of Belvoir.
    Oh! the singing and dancing is surely entrancing.
    Just like the racing we saw round the field;
    Whilst cob race and tug-of-war out distanced the dance and all,
    Except the big race that was on for the shield.
    With the ladies serenading, the gents promenading,
    The band were parading in beautiful style;
    With the charming surroundings of woods, lakes and mountains,
    'Twas like the Garden of Eden at the Sports of Belvoir.
    Up for the committee, the ladies and the referee,
    Who organized with ability and care;
    Up for the willing hands, especially the dashing bands,
    They are keeping up the spirit of the whole County Clare.
