  1. The English government provided Indian meal, and huge boilers in which to boil the porridge for the poor starving people in the neighbourhood. One of these boilers was in the yard at Hilton Park, and another one in the parish of Drung. Many people died of starvation. The population was greatly decreased in this district, and the ruins of many houses, once occupied, are to be found.
