  1. One of the Breffney O'Reillys erected a castle on the moat of Castlerahan in the Parish, Barony and Townland of Castlerahan during the sixteenth century. He and his family and a small army dwelt there for some time. the castle was strongly fortified and was fitted out with underground passages. The upper portion of the castle afforded a splendid view of the Counties Cavan, Meath, West-Meath, Longford and Leitrim. All the O'Reillys' castles were built on very high ground with the exception of their castle at Kilnacrott. At present
