  1. An old Easter Story
    A story used to be told by the fireside about the soldiers whom the jews put to guard the sepulchre where Our Lord lay buried. It appears that those soldiers had an argument as to whether Our Lord was put to death unjustly or not. One of them held that the trial was unfair and the whole proceedings irregular and that Our Lord was not guilty of any crime. He said there was more guilt amongst the accusers than the accused. The other soldier tried to argue the opposite but was not able to refute the arguments of his opponent. Now it happened that those soldiers had a fowl boiling in a pot beside the place where they sat, and the soldier who was beaten in the argument turned towards the pot and said "I will believe all you say when the cock in that pot comes
