   People used to rise early and go out and wash their faces in the dew and dry it in the sun and they would not be sunburned that year. The well was cleaned on May Eve because it was lucky. Those who sold butter or milk would not sell it on May Eve. Red rags were tied on the cows horns and tails for fear they would be overlooked. People arose early in the morning to put up their smoke first. They ran through the dew barefoot on May Eve morning. Water was not thrown out on May Eve. When a person went into a house where the people were churning they would say "Good luck
