  1. Potatoes are grown on every farm usually about one or two acres
    Some years they are better than others.
    Seed has to be changed often in order to have good potatoes
    Sandy ground is good for this crop.
    The ground is ploughed & harrowed & made into drills. The manure is put into drills & potatoes set on it one foot apart. Sometimes they are set & then the manure put in. Stable manure is the best.
    Some cottiers plant potatoes in ridges
    Wooden ploughs were used long ago.
    Steel & iron ploughs are used now. & a great improvement on the old wooden plough.
    Some plough with a tractor now.
