  1. In olden times there was a football match played in Ballinasloe.
    The Cloghan and Cloghan Hill team played against the Ballymacward team.
    There were eleven men on each side. The best kickers were picked by the captain of the clubs and which ever of the teams won they would get the present of tobacco or a pipe.
    The teams went to the playing field in what they called a ''brake'' drawn by two horses.
