    on a hill called Croghan Hill in Offaly and people go to it every year. At the foot of the hill there is a blessed well and the water from it is believed to have cured certain sores.
    On Shrove Tuesday night it is a very old custom to make pan-cakes and to put a ring in one of them and it is said whoever gets the ring will be married before that day twelve months.
    In bygone days the old people gathered all Good Friday's eggs and put a cross of soot on them. Then on Easter Sunday they would eat them.
    It was an old belief that if it rains on St.Swintin's Day that is the 15th of July it will rain for forty days and forty nights afterwards, but the younger generation do not believe those sayings.
    On November night also spoken of as Hallow'een the young men dress up as huggadus and go around from house to house dancing and making fun. The people of the house generally
