  1. In olden times nearly all houses were thatched. The thatch was got from the oats and wheat. In olden times there was a bed in the kitchen it was beside the fire and was called a "wad."
    In times gone by the chimneys were made of wood and some sticks. Nearly all chimneys were made with rods. In olden times all floors were made of yellow clay.
    In olden times people used wood for their fires. The people used rushes dipped in grease for light at night.
