  1. There was a Hedge School in Rathmore, Athboy. It was situated on the right hand side of the road going from Athboy to Navan. It was beside the gate leading into the old church of Rathmore. There is a hand-ball alley built a little beyond it now.
    This Hedge-School was there in the year 1820, one hundred and eighteen years ago. Latin, Reading, and English were taught in it. The pupils and teachers had no seats or chairs to sit on There was a lot of blocks of wood, that were used as seats and desks.
