    fork. Then he places the sheaf of straw on the roof of the cottage. He fastens this to the roof with a small rod pointed at each end. He continues like this, covering each sheaf with a new one.
    When he is finished, he trims the thatch and makes it even. He sometimes ornaments the thatch on the ridge, by twisting straw around sally rods and forming them into ornamental knots.
