  1. About ten years ago a professor gave a lecture in Ardee on temperance. When he got up on the platform he said,
    "If you put a bucket of water beside a bucket of whiskey and get a thirsty donkey and put him beside the two buckets which will he drink?"
    The people who were backing the professor answered "the water" but a farmer at the back of the hall shouted up:
    "That's because he's an Ass!"
