  1. Long ago there was a boy named Jack. One day his mother sent him to a butcher for hearts and livers. He was forgetful and kept saying his messages so that everyone could hear him. On his journey he met a man. "Why are you calling out my heart and liver" said the man. "What will I say" said Jack. "Say that they may never come up", said the man. Jack next met men sowing potatoes. "That they may never come up" said Jack. The men were angry. "Say that we may have 300 bags this year and 600 next year". Jack went away until he met a funeral. "That ye may have 300 this year and 600 next year", said he. "Don't say that" said the people. Say God speed him his journey. Jack next saw a priest's housekeeper following a dog who had
